• 1903 William Coolidge invented the x-ray tube.
• October 1904 The first death related to accumulated over-exposure to X-ray radiation.
• 1904 John Ambrose Fleming invented the vacuum tube.
• 1906 The start of modern realization of the dangers with cancer to X-ray radiation.
• 1922 The American Roentgen Ray Society organizes protection recommendations to protect both patients and doctors when in contact of an x-ray.
• Hermann Muller shows the genetic effects of X-ray exposures to cells.
• 1970's and onwards X-rays are used to treat cancers. Radiology creates a new technology such as PET.
